EXPLORING THE FROZEN REALM
Based on my experience as a 'ship’s naturalist' on cruise ships to the Antarctica Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falklands.
Explore the Antarctic Peninsula where icebergs, glaciers and mountains combine to create some of the world’s most beautiful and breathtaking scenery and stunning wildlife spectacles, like the vast Chinstrap colony on Deception Island.
Learn about albatrosses, comical and curious penguins, great whales, bossy fur seals, bizarre icefish and belching elephant seals. Find out about the history of the region by visiting some of the locations where it actually happened, from the first sealers and whalers to Shackleton’s epic story of survival. And learn about the new arrivals, the ecotourist.
Also with music to add to the atmosphere of the slides.
For details of an Antarctica cruise, check out the ’In Search of the Frozen Realm’ article.
With my experience of expedtion cruising as a naturalist in Antarctica, I have a broad range of topics - with stories and pictures to match - for lectures on wildlife cruises. These include:
Wanderers of the Southern Ocean - the seabirds of Antarctica.
Penguin power! - A look at penguins.
Seals of Antarctica
Having a Whale of a Time - the whales and dolphins of Antarctica.
I can also talk about the ecology of Antarctica and the close link between early exploration of Antarctica and the exploitation of the wildlife.
I can also talk about the Arctic and sailing the Norwegian coast and exploring the high Arctic region around Spitsbergen.
