Survey Experience: Amphibians
- Natural England Great Crested Newt licence for all English Counties and EPS licence holder for various mitigation projects in the past.
- Wide range of Great Crested Newt surveys including:
- Sites for proposed housing developments.
- Numerous surveys for road and motorway corridors.
- Railway corridors (e.g. sections of the CTRL channel tunnel line).
- Pipeline corridors (e.g. for Thames Water and Southern Water).
- Surveys of ’brown field’ sites (e.g. Battersea Power Station).
- Landfill sites, chalk pits and quarries.
- Sites for proposed reservoirs.
- Management surveys of commons etc. for groups like the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
- Management plans for locations like Bushy Park.
- Site ecologist for HCI at Orton Brick pits (UK’s largest colony of Great Crested Newts).
- Extensive Crested Newt survey of Clwyd and Glamorgan for HCI on the behalf of Countryside Commission for Wales.
- Considerable experience of Great Crested Newt translocations including a major mitigation programme for Rural Arisings at Church Marshes in Kent.
- Assisting with a SARG project to film Common Toads using an amphibian tunnel at a very active taod crossing.
- Experience of habitat management for Great Crested Newts (and other amphibians).
- Creation of hibernacula for Great Crested Newts
- Experience stickleback eradication relating to key Great Crested Newt sites.
- Work on surveying and eradicating the American Bullfrog in the UK for Froglife and Natural England.
- Assistance with the Froglife London ’Pond Doctor’ service.
- Survey work on green frogs in SE England for SARG (Surrey Amphibian and Reptile Group).
- Studying Pool Frogs across Europe in relation to the Pool Frog Action plan and the status in the UK.
- Amphibian recording workshop in Hungary/Ukraine.
- Great Crested Newt survey of ponds in Richmond Park for the Royal Parks.
