Evolving for the Future: An Eco-model for Business Want Your Business to Learn From Nature?
- Want your audience on the edge of their seats?
- An inspirational speaker for that ’graveyard’ slot!
We are all familiar with quotes from Charles Darwin like ’the struggle for life’, ’survival of the fittest’ and nature being ’red in tooth and claw’ - with the implication you need to be the ’top cat’ to survive.
The biggest ever cat was the sabre-toothed cat. Against huge prey it was a formidable predator. However, it couldn’t adapt to change and became extinct!
Real success has far more to do with close partnerships and adaptation. The sabre-toothed cat went extinct since it couldn’t adapt to a changing environment. It is no use being the ’fittest’ if you can’t adapt to change, something we can all learn from, from the biggest to the smallest business enterprise.
With the new millennium our attitudes to the environment are changing and businesses need to adapt to economic and environmental changes, or go the way of the sabre-toothed cat. After all, the issue of climatic change is a major topic these days and all political parties are addressing environmental issues, so don’t get left behind.
As an experienced naturalist I have a wealth of examples from nature to improve your business strategy and outlook in a challenging and exciting way. For example, a lot of the birds in the rainforest are in competition for food with slightly different niches. However, they also collaborate by forming mixed species feeding flocks or ’guilds’ - the benefits of a combined ’look out’ for predators far outweighs any competition for food.
Another example is the Leopard Seal of Antarctica. It has impressive canines to feed on penguins that help to build up it’s stength. However, the main prey is krill and these shrimp-like animals are vital for much of the year when penguins are hard to find. As a business you may have that key product that brings in lots of profit - but don’t ignore that product that gets you through the lean times!
I’ve stressed the need to adapt and in many cases this is vital, but there are times when you shouldn’t change something that works, despite the pressure from all those business advisors! Look at the picture of the leaf mimic - it is so perfect it doesn’t need to change. It would be crazy for the World Wide Fund for Nature to change it’s panda logo since it is so perfect. The name Royal Mail is known around the world, yet they tried to change the name to Consigia for a while! I’v given a few examples from the natural world that may help your business outlook - and there are so many others!
Based on my experiences from the underwater world to the open ocean, the rainforest to Antarctica, and topics from ecotourism to wildlife mitigation, my presentations use stunning pictures, fascinating facts, and the diversity and variety of the natural world to inspire your audience. Guaranteed to motivate them and get everyone interacting for the rest of the conference.
I’m also at the forefront of environmental issues that you cannot ignore if you want to evolve for the future. For example, did you know that ’environmental protection’ could be worth £265 billion, as much as pharmaceuticals - and probably a lot more! Furthermore, the issue of climate change should be looked upon as the chance to adapt and change for the better, not as a hurdle.
I can also adjust a presentation so it is directly relevant to your business aims and interests.
Or you may just want a travel presentation with a difference to inspire and motivate your audience at a conference - a presentation they will be guaranteed to remember!
